VR in Art Education Panel Discussion

VR in Art Education Panel Discussion

I want to start off by apologising for the lack of recordings from my #CPDinVR events of late. We've had some stellar guests on delivering presentations, speaking on panels or joining me for my Live From Dubai chatshow and for various reasons I've not been able to share recordings for the last few events. Thankfully, we seem to have turned a corner and I am delighted to share with you the full recording from the March 1st panel discussion session on VR for Art Education. I wa

Step inside Artwork in Virtual Reality

My monthly column for the brilliant VR Focus continued in January with an article looking at a special subset of VR art apps that allow you to actually step inside works of art. The piece includes a video from my newly refurbished YouTube channel showing three such apps in action as well as some details about other apps of this kind. VR and the Internet of Things

This week I took part in Dubai Future Technology Week, a conglomerate of tech-themed conferences at Dubai’s World Trade Centre. I was invited to take part in a panel discussion focusing on the intersection between VR and the Internet of Things alongside some excellent people: Shujat Mirza is the UAE Chapter President of the VRAR Association and someone that I have known for a number of years since his time at local AR startup Pixelbug. Shujat chaired the panel for us. Dr. San

Most educators that have connected with me over the last five years associate me with iPads and Apple technology in general but whilst I still use my iPad and iPhone every single day, I am a man of many devices and over the last two years Microsoft technology has begun to play a bigger role once again. This is partly due to our deployment of Office 365 across JESS Dubai, partly due to my need for a “superlaptop”to run my HTC Vive (I use an Acer Predator) and partly due to our

Create a virtual gallery using Roomful

A couple of years ago I played around with an iPad app that allowed you to create a virtual art gallery. The app (3D Gallery) allowed you to import images to place on the gallery walls then use a touchscreen interface to move around and view them. It was basic but effective though it lacked a lot of features that could have elevated it (like the ability to screencast or share the gallery.) I featured it in one of my all-time favourite features over on iPad Educators – my Bank

Tilt Brush in the hands of an Art student

When I first saw an advert for Google Tilt Brush in May 2016, I knew I would have to get an HTC Vive. It blew my mind and for the first time in a long time gave me the feeling of seeing something genuinely groundbreaking in action. Here is that promo clip- When I got my Vive in January 2017, Tilt Brush was the first app I downloaded. The second I painted my first line of light, my breath held and I was in absolute awe. This really was a new level in VR - true creation INSIDE
