VR in Art Education Panel Discussion

I want to start off by apologising for the lack of recordings from my #CPDinVR events of late. We've had some stellar guests on delivering presentations, speaking on panels or joining me for my Live From Dubai chatshow and for various reasons I've not been able to share recordings for the last few events. Thankfully, we seem to have turned a corner and I am delighted to share with you the full recording from the March 1st panel discussion session on VR for Art Education. I was joined for this by three wonderful guests - Jesse Damiani of VR Scout, Joel Kremer from The Kremer Collection and my JESS Dubai colleague Sidra Iqbal. Between the three of them they boasted a wealth of knowledge on VR

The #VRclassroom Experiment

Guest post by Chris Long. “Hey Steve… I’ve got an idea.” Most people know to shut their ears and run for the hills when I say I have an idea. When I approached Steve Bambury and suggested I host a class in the UK and have him port in via virtual reality, he quickly pointed out all the technical challenges, but didn’t say no… It should only be 10 minutes, sandwiched between other events. It’ll be easy! It all started because I had been speaking to Dave Haynes of HTC. Dave had been finding great developers who make content that can be used in education. Initially he suggested one company ‘Insilico’ who could show a piece of content to a handful of engineering and construction staff, but

The #CPDinVR First Anniversary Event

In June 2017 I decided to try something new, something that hadn’t been done before in education – to host a professional development session inside virtual reality. I chose the Engage platform from Immersive VR Education as it was the best tool for this job and with the help of Immersive’s founder and CEO David Whelan and Engage’s lead developer Mike Armstrong, I set about coordinating what would be the very first #CPDinVR event. The image you can see below is actually one I've never shared before; it was taken 10 minutes before that first ever session began, on June 28th 2017. The session was a success and a great experience so I decided to keep the ball rolling. Over the following months

5 amazing VR experiences inside Engage

Most of the time I'm talking about Engage, it's generally in relation to the #CPDinVR events (find them here) but the truth is that even though Engage is still in beta, you'd be hard put to find a VR app with such a wide range of amazing educational experiences. Engage is currently free to access and runs on Vive, Oculus or directly on a PC. This means that even schools with a single/limited number of VR headsets can access these amazing multi-user VR learning opportunities. So what I've done is put a little video together highlighting five of my favourite experiences within Engage. Take a look: Below you can find some additional information for each activity. Please note that the number of

Video footage from #CPDinVR panel discussion

On August 15th, I hosted the most recent #CPDinVR sessions inside Engage. The first was an encore presentation of the original session from June and the second was a new panel discussion exploring AR and VR in education. On the panel were Martin Bukacek (Community Shaman at Lifeliqe), Mercedes Bent (CEO of Ben Toppin and former VP at Upload VR) and Alex Chaucer (host of the #VREDUchat on Twitter and pioneering VR educator.) The team at Immersive VR Education added some amazing new features to Engage over the last few months in parallel to the #CPDinVR sessions. One of these updates is the ability to record sessions in full VR within Engage. These can then be played back and you can move free

The #CPDinVR Panel - December 2017

After a month off due to a combination of illness, moving house and a bunch of other commitments, I hosted the final #CPDinVR event of 2017 last night. This session was a panel discussion about AR and VR in education and joining me were Steven Sato from the USA, Alex Johnson who is based in India and special guest Hervé Fontaine - European VP of HTC Vive. We also welcomed one of our biggest crowds yet with educators from the UK, USA, China, the UAE and many more in the audience. As with the last couple of sessions, I attempted to record the session within Engage, this time quite successfully. This recording is not a video but a full recording of the VR session that can be played back and wa
