Panel Discussion on VR for Impact
and Empathy, September 15th 2017

I am delighted to confirm that the next free CPD in VR event will take place on September 15th. Once again this event will take place inside Engage from Immersive VR Education and will be open to educators worldwide. Engage can be accessed using an HTC Vive, Oculus Rift or directly from a PC. It does not currently support the Mac.

VR for Impact and Empathy panel discussion

TIME: 8pm UAE time (5pm UK time, 12pm EST)

This panel discussion will focus on the VR for Impact programme and creating empathetic experiences within VR. It will be hosted by VirtualiTeach founder Steve Bambury and features some very special guests on the panel:

David Romero

David Romero is a San Francisco based immersive technologist currently serving as a technical specialist at HTC Vive. At Vive, David is currently focused on developer support, community, and is involved with the administration of the “VR for Impact” initiative which aims to fund non-profit projects that help realize the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. He specializes in photogrammetry/3D capture and his personal work can be viewed at www.sketchfab.com/vibrantnebula

Dominic Eskofier

Dominic is Head of Virtual Reality (EMEAI) for NVIDIA and has been called “the single most influential European Virtual Reality specialist”. As one of the early pioneers of the modern VR movement, Dominic has been involved in the industry ever since Oculus founder Palmer Luckey showed him the original duct-taped prototype of the Oculus Rift back in 2012. He co-founded the non-profit organization EUVR.org as well as the VR startup realities.io.

Sean Gilroy

Sean is Head of Cognitive Design at the BBC and has spent the last 3 years working on BBC CAP E, an initiative promoting Neurodiversity and considering design and accessibility from a cognitive perspective. Based in MediaCityUK, Sean is an advocate for inclusion.

If your plans change and you are no longer able to attend the session, please get in touch as soon as possible so that your place can be reassigned. There are limited spaces in each event and there is always a waiting list when sessions are full.

To download the free Engage application via Steam, please click on the logo below Please note that Engage does not currently support Mac; users without a Vive or Rift headset must use a PC to take part in the CPD in VR sessions.

I have produced a set of documents to support users who join the CPD in VR sessions:

  1. Engage Session Details - everything you need to know for the session, including the room codes, joining instructions and more.

  2. Engage Controls - control layouts for all platforms. 

  3. Steam Guide - if you are new to the Steam platform, this guide will walk you through the sign up process and how to find and download Engage from Steam.
